The salaries of pharmacists are rising as the Affordable Care Act expands access to drugs and technology.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ latest salary report shows pharmacist median compensation rose by 8.7 percent to $77,902 in 2018, a 6.5 percent increase over 2017.

Median compensation for pharmacy technicians was up 6.9 percent to an average of $94,700.

The report shows median compensation for all-counselor pharmacists rose by 7.2 percent to a median of $93,838.

Average hourly earnings for pharmacists were up by 0.5 percentage points to $28.51.

The average pay for pharmacy technician workers was up 5.9% to $52.12.

The median salary for pharmacist assistants was up 4.9 to $38.05.

The average hourly pay for pharmacist associates was up 1.9 percentage points.

The BLS said median pay for nurses was up 2.1 percent to just over $30,000.

The highest paid nurses are in medicine, accounting for almost 60 percent of the workforce.

The median hourly pay of pharmacy technicians in 2018 was $38 an hour.

The lowest paid nurses earn $13.70.

The report does not break out the total compensation of the pharmaceutical industry, which has more than tripled since 2007.

But the number of employees at the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America has more grown than the number at drug companies in that time.
