WVU pharmacist Matt Stoddard says he was surprised when he received an email in March that said the job listing for his job at the WVUP Pharmacy in West Virginia had been eliminated.

“I was like, ‘Oh, my God,'” Stoddards son, Ryan Stodders, told WVUC-TV in Charleston, West Virginia.

The job listing, dated March 2, said the position was being eliminated because the pharmacy was closing, and the department would be closing as well.

Stoddars son says the department is still accepting applications for the job.

“They are not accepting the applications because there’s not a pharmacy on campus, they are just not interested,” Ryan Stoders said.

“So I was like ‘oh my God, this is a joke.'”

Stoddar is an attorney and a veteran who has worked at the pharmacy for four years.

Stonewall Baptist Hospital says it has had to lay off about half of its pharmacy workforce because of the closure.

The hospital says the move is “a long-term solution to an urgent health issue.”

But some local pharmacists say it is unfair to lay people off and that pharmacists are actually working to save money.

“When they say you can’t do anything because you’re a pharmacist, I don’t know how that’s supposed to be working,” WV pharmacist and former employee Jennifer Schafer told CBS News.

“It’s just not true.”

Ryan Stooders said his father’s experience with the pharmacist position was a “shocking” experience.

“He did a lot of work for his town and it’s very hard to get a job, and that’s the last thing you want,” Ryan said.

The WVUD is also closing its pharmacy and closing its medical office.

WV Pharmacy’s pharmacy is scheduled to close this fall.
